Here you can see some of the registered events that will contribute to reaching our 'Ride Around the World' target.

  • Event: Bike to School day
  • Date: July 9

Details:

5 members of staff will be cycling to and from the school, and all Y6 pupils will be cycling 2 miles each around the school field.

  • Event: Lands End to John O'Groats

Details:

Kirstie Wright will be riding from Lands End to John O'Groats from the 2nd - 17th August in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK, because her auntie has just been diagnosed and is currently undergoing treatment. The total distance will be 1675 kms / 1029.4 miles and a total height gain of 66974 ft.

Details:

Graham Jack will be on holiday with his family in Florida during the Bike to the Future ride, but to provide his support for the event, and to contribute to the Ride around the World target, Graham will be begging / stealing / borrowing a bike, and spending the day cycling with the aim of covering a minimum of 80 kms / 50 miles.

Here is a picture of the 9 sporty employees from the KONE Corporate Offices in Brussels that took up the challenge of Biking To Work: (from left to right) Saz Dosanjh, Toby Fox, David D'Hose, Iago Arribas, Peter Fenton, Thierry Vermeiren, Steven Hunt, Mario Coimbra and Thomas Kemp. Together with another 8 colleagues who did some riding in the forest during their lunchtime, the 17 cycled a combine distance of 255 kms / 159 miles, and raised a magnificent 1.020,60 EUR for Pancreatic Cancer UK!

Details:

Not being a bike rider has not deterred Samantha Hawes from wanting to contribute to the Ride around the World target, and so she is arranging that her and her sister Louise Whitehead and friend Theresa Bruce will be trying to reach the 200 mile mark throughout the day on static bikes in the Tone Zone gym, in the Haltemprice Leisure Centre, Hull that she uses. In addition to the three core riders, Samantha is hoping that other Tone Zone gym users during the day will be prepared to donate their pounds and miles to the target. Samantha will also be holding a 'thank you' barbecue in the evening for those who have contributed during the day.

Details:

Since the end of the original Bike to the Future 2004, some of the team members have added off-road mountain biking to their cycling repertoires. In the latest installment, Bradford Old Farts (BOF) Pete Abell. Pete van Ruiten and friends took on the Glentress, Innerleithen and Dalbeattie x-country mountain bike course, with plenty of spills, thrills and even some blood spilt for the cause.

Details:

Medwen Roberts is organising a 7 day ride across Wales along the famous Lon Las route in memory of her father who was an avid cyclist when he was younger. The route which goes from Holyhead to Chepstow (or in Welsh Caergybi - Casgwent) has a total mileage of 274 miles. The four women riding are "not trying to beat the clock" and do it in two days but will take about 7 days, and Medwen is raising money for PCUK.

In addition, Medwen's sister Mona and niece Heledd and a cousin Meinir are collecting in Blaenau Ffestiniog, where they were brought up and where Medwen and Mona's dad was a well known member of the small community, and a friend Shirley is collecting in Ruthin where Medwen now lives.

Details:

Prior to the official start of Bike to the Future 2008, Les and other members of the team will be watching various employees of Hammersmith Hospital (Les' treatment centre) do as many circuits of Wormwood Scrubbs as possible. It is hoped that the three consultants who have been involved in Les' treatment (Surgeon: Long Jiao; Oncologist: Harpreet Wasan; and Radiography: Alex Taylor)will be able to get on their bikes and lead the way.

Hammersmith Hospital employees who want to take part are asked to register their interest by e-mail or phone. Gary Brown and his brother will be cycling from Manchester to Blackpool (see www.bike-events.com/Ride.aspx?id=164) to raise money for PCUK because Gary's fiancée has a close friend of the family that has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and this made Gary look into it a bit more only to find how little support / focus is given to this type of cancer. Details:

Headstone Manor Youth Football Club (HMYFC) u10b boys team are on tour in Bournmouth for the May bank holiday weekend. Noel Lally, the team manager and Kathy Moore, mum of one of the boys who plays in the team, are cycling down to Bournmouth from the team base in Harrow, North West London and are pledging the miles ridden to the Round the World target. Noel says "may I commend Les for bringing this particular cause to light, as I lost my Dad to this form of cancer some 12 years ago and I was frankly appalled at how little was and could be done for him"

Krys says "We are going to have a great time partying and trying to raise as many miles as possible by cycling round the village on various sized routes. We will have as much competitive spirit as we can and hopefully match it in the donating too. Details:

Charles, Sophie, Caroline and Charles-J Pridgeon, and friend Tom Denton will be pedalling over 700km from Berlin to Copenhagen in aid of a number of important British and German cancer charities, including Pancreatic Cancer UK. This follows last year's incredible adventure where the Pridgeon family raised Eur 13,500.- for the Deutsche Krebshilfe e.V. by cycling from Berlin to Dresden (340km). Details:

In support of team member Les Niewiara, members of Tansley veterans football club, family and friends will be tackling a different challenge by riding a South Hertfordshire loop. Starting at the Black Horse pub in South Mimms, Potters Bar, EN6 3PS, the team will head north to Hertford, then on to Welwyn Garden City before setting off back to Potters Bar and the welcome relief of a pint and some food in the Black Horse pub. This event is open to anyone who wants to join the ride, whether connected with Tansley or not.

KONE UK is organising a Bike to Work day, and is encouraging all of its employees throughout the UK to take part to contribute to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and to help to achieve the target of 'Riding around the World'. Employees who take part are asked to register their interest by e-mail or phone, giving details of the estimated distance they will be cycling on the day (counting both to and from work), as well as the work location to which they will be cycling.   • Event: Liverpool to Leeds

Details:

Richard Clarke, Northern Sales Manager for KONE plc is organising a cycling weekend for members of his team, as well as other KONE employees and friends. The route will be a tough 140 miles starting on Sept 12 in Halewood Country Park, Liverpool, and finishing at The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds on Saturday, Sept 13. The team will make an overnight stop around Windle Edge or Dunford Bridge in the Peak District National Park on the Friday Night, approximately 75 - 80 miles from the start in Liverpool.

Richard and the team are no strangers to supporting charities, particularly ones close to the hearts' of KONE colleagues, having already done a couple of notable charity events. In 2004, Richard and the team did The Windermere Row in aid of St Gamma's Hospice in Leeds, raising £5000. In 2006, Richard and the team did The Cumbrian Sky Dive done to raise funds for McMillan Cancer and the Palliative Care Unit at Nottingham City Hospital raising about £8000.

Details:

The coaches and parents of Headstone Manor YFC (where Les is a manager / coach and parent) and Harrow St Mary's (where Les is a parent) will be taking on the challenge of a loop around Harrow roughly following the route of the old Harrow Half Marathon. The ride will be starting at Headstone Manor Recreation Ground at 1pm.

Details:

The playing members of Headstone Manor YFC and Harrow St. Mary's YFC (as well as coaches and parents) will be riding as many loops as possible of the Headstone Manor Recreation Ground in order to build up the 'Ride around the World' distance. Amongst them will be Les' HMYFC u14 girls team, and the Harrow St.Mary's u15 double winning team both of which include one of Les' daughters. Boys and girls from the many other HMYFC and HSM teams and their managers and coaches will also be represented. Food and drink will be available throughout the afternoon at the Bessborough Cricket Clubhouse.

Details:

Ride around the Hills is an event organised by Ian Rogers (a friend of Les Niewiara) and Rob Lewis, an Iron Man triathlete who is using this event as his comeback event from being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Ian and Rob have teamed up with the Cancer Council in Adelaide, to organise the "Father's Day Classic" - an event which raises awareness and funds for forms of cancers which affect men, as well as for pancreatic cancer. Riders registering through the Ride around the Hills website: www.ridearoundthehills.paxigo.com.au will become part of Team Pancreas in that event, and all sponsorship raised by the team will be used by the Cancer Council for a Pancreatic Cancer project. There will also be a Ride around the Hills motorbike ride in October where participants will be asked to sponsor the cyclists as their "entry fee".

Our aim is to raise £1,500 funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK (PCUK) and to commemorate the loss of a very popular friend Peter Rossitter (aka Ross) who sadly passed away after contracting the disease in November 2007.

In September 2004, Peter and a number of work colleagues and friends took part in a similar ride, cycling from Brecon to Bedwas. So, we decided to repeat the ride and would like you to support us with your donation. All of the money raised will be donated to PCUK to raise awareness of this disease. It will also help to fund research to help to diagnose and treat people suffering from pancreatic cancer. You can sponsor us by going to the following link: www.justgiving.com/ride4ross

Approximately 30 riders will start at the Brecon Theatre, South Wales on Sunday 22nd June and follow the 'Taff Cycle Trail' through part of the beautiful Brecon Beacons to the centre of Cardiff. Each rider that completes the distance will have covered approximately 52 miles. Riders will include employees of the Welsh Assembly Government together with friends and family members of Ross.

75 km of stunning views across the unchanged moorland of East Radnorshire in the Welsh Marches, away from farmland, and with NO forestry. This is the sixth trip by this group that has already raised thousands for Cure Leukaemia. The first ride in 2003 saw 4 members travel the Coast to Coast whilst last year six circumnavigated Northern Ireland. This year we leave the cars in Portsmouth, catch the ferry to Cherbourg and cycle past the Normandy Beaches (with a quick trip round Jersey) before catching the ferry back from Le Havre.
